SPOTLIGHT ON OUR PET TRAINING PROGRAM……

           cat and dog together

Kirby's Second Chance

We had an opportunity to help 10-year-old Kirby find his new forever home:   Kirby, a wonderful, fun-loving, ten year old Maltese Mix, was facing an uncertain future. His owner was moving and had been unable to find a new home for Kirby. He could soon be taken to an animal shelter when a miracle happened. A loving family heard about Kirby’s situation. They already had another Maltese and loved the breed. Upon meeting this family, Kirby got along well with the other dog but he did not know how to respond to the family cat other than to chase it. The adoption could only work if Kirby could be taught how to behave appropriately around the cat and that is when the family contacted Partnership for Humane Solutions Inc. for professional help. A volunteer with formal education and training in animal behavior worked with Kirby and the prospective adoptive family on specific positive training strategies. The problem behavior resolved and Kirby now has his new wonderful forever home! His new owners wrote us about Kirby and the cat (Steve Junior) saying: “they have become best of friends” and about our services: “We need loving and caring people (angels) like you.”

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR LOST PET RECOVERY PROGRAM……

Sissy’s Story

“Sissy”, a beautiful 4 year old ragdoll kitty, was living the life of leisure as an indoor cat until one evening she accidently slipped out the back door. When she did not return home, her owner was desperate to find her and turned to our organization for help.  A volunteer trained in missing animal response called her to develop a behavior profile of Sissy and a search strategy based on that profile. Sissy’s worried owner welcomed the help saying, “I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate all the support and advice. I go through some very dark times where I tell myself that I’m never going to see her sweet little face again. Then I talk to people like you and I’ve got hope again.”
Our organization got to work assisting in an area search, notifying the community, and applying specific strategies to lead a frightened Sissy back to the house. 25 Days later Sissy was home again!! She came in through an installed one-way cat door leading into the basement, following the trail of food, scent, and catnip used to lure her. Although she was exhausted, having lost half her body weight, a trip to the vet assured her owner that
she would make a full recovery. Her owner said, “I’m so glad she’s home. I wasn’t looking forward to life without her.”

Jasmine’s Journey

Jasmine is a beautiful white shepherd who accidently went missing from her home. Our organization heard she was missing and contacted Jasmine’s family who were searching for her. Time was of the essence as Jasmine was last seen near busy roads. Her owner received an initial consultation from our missing animal response tech. Specific search strategies were recommended, shelter/rescues and vet offices were notified. Jasmine’s family kept getting the word out and followed up on all leads, even those in surrounding counties. 6 days later Jasmine was found!! On a suggestion from our MAR tech, Jasmine’s owner had contacted Chester County radio station WCOJ and requested a missing pet announcement over the radio. The good folks at WCOJ let their listeners know that Jasmine was missing. Some of those listeners heard the announcement and later that day spotted Jasmine in the quarry where they were working and kindly helped reunite her with her family. What a miracle! Although Jasmine was exhausted and hungry, her owner says, “She was so happy to see us!!! And vice versa of course!”

This is “Jasmine” – what a happy dog!
